AEIMIS: A Spanish Non-Profit for Sustainability – Showcased in HAVEN and BIG LEAP Projects

Madrid, Spain – April 30, 2024 – The Spanish Association for Innovation in Marketing and Sustainable Investment (AEIMIS), a new organization dedicated to advancing innovation in marketing and sustainable investment, has recently kicked off two different initiatives under the Horizon Europe innovation and research programme. These two projects, HAVEN and BIG LEAP, are focused in improving the development of battery systems and energy storage for the automotive and other stationary sectors, and AEIMIS’ involvement will serve for developing and overseeing a communication and dissemination strategy plan for both projects, as well as for defining the future exploitation and market route.

Batteries: a key for a green, electrified, future

HAVEN Project: this project focuses on developing innovative energy storage systems. HAVEN is creating a Hybrid Energy Storage Solution (HESS) designed for long-term energy storage and advanced grid support services. This solution leverages cutting-edge storage technologies, optimized power converters, and advanced energy management tools, prioritizing modularity, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. A consortium of academic and industrial partners will collaborate for 48 months to design a sustainable, safe, and efficient Hybrid-Energy Storage System (HESS) that aims to revolutionize the power grid and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. This innovative HESS will address the challenges of integrating renewable energy sources (RES) and enabling seamless EV charging. The HAVEN EU Project consortium brings, led by Brussels Research & Innovation Center for Green Technologies (BRING) as coordinator, together a diverse and experienced team of 15 partners from Belgium, Germany, Spain, Lithuania, Turkey, Portugal, Italy, Denmark, France, Slovenia, Morocco, and India.

BIG LEAP Project: The BIG LEAP project enhances operation reliability of Second Life Batteries by addressing interoperability in Battery Management Systems. The BIG LEAP project is a Horizon Europe initiative that enhances operation reliability of SLB by addressing interoperability in Battery Management Systems (BMS). It develops a three-layer BMS architecture for SLBs, integrates an adaptable Energy Storage System (ESS) design, and aiming for safe and reliable operation from FL to SL-BESS. Testing in 2 physical and 1 virtual demo aims to validate innovations, contributing to market adoption and positive impacts on the European economy through the battery value chain. The project brings together a consortium of 16 partners from 10 EU Member States (Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Spain, Portugal, and Norway) with 2 Third countries associated with Horizon Europe (Turkey and Switzerland) and two international partners (India and Morocco). The kick-off meetings of the projects took place on Ninove (BE) on January 31, 2024 (HAVEN) and the 30th of January 2024 (BIG LEAP) was online. Both HAVEN and BIG LEAP projects have the potential to significantly contribute to the European Union’s goals in several ways, particularly regarding sustainability and energy transition.

More information on the progress of the projects will be published in the upcoming months.
