On July 1st 2022, the PHOENI2X project was successfully launched. PHOENI2X is a 36-month Research Innovation Action (RIA) project funded by the European Union within the Horizon research program.
Why PHOENI2X?
The main aim of PHOENi2X isto design, develop, and deliver a Cyber Resilience Framework providing Artificial Intelligence (AI) – assisted orchestration, automation & response capabilities for business continuity and recovery, incident response, and information exchange, tailored to the needs of Operators of Essential Services (OES) and of the EU Member State (MS) National Authorities entrusted with cybersecurity. Through the deployment PHOENi2X Cyber Resilience Centres (PHOENi2X CRCs), OES will gain: (i) enhanced Situational Awareness with AI-assisted Prediction, Prevention, Detection & Response capabilities, and business risk impact assessment-based prioritisation; (ii) proactive and reactive Resilience Automation, Orchestration, and Response (ROAR) mechanisms, providing Business Continuity, Recover and Cyber & Physical Incident Response; (iii) increased Preparedness through relevant Serious Games and realistic Resilience Cyber Range (RCR) Assessment & Training; (iv) timely and actionable Information Exchange between OES, National Authorities and EU actors, leveraging interoperable and standardised alerting and reporting mechanisms and processes.
Objectives
1. To provide trustworthy AI-assisted Situational Awareness & Prediction capabilities, with risk impact assessment, facilitating prioritisation, recommendation and adaptation of system response.
2. To design & develop Resilience Orchestration, Automation and Response mechanisms, encompassing proactive and reactive business continuity, recovery and incident handling tasks.
3. To offer enhanced Preparedness through a Resilience Cyber Range and Serious Games.
4. To provide Alerting, Reporting & Information Exchange mechanisms & processes enabling collaboration between private and public critical sector actors at the national and European level.
5. To integrate, demonstrate, and validate PHOENi2X in the context of 3 Essential Service use cases: Energy, Transport, Healthcare.
PILOTS
The project will consider three use case domains for the demonstration and evaluation of the PHOENI2X framework: Energy, Transport and Healthcare.
ENERGY
Energy use case, based in Greece, directly involving an OES, Public Power Company; as well a supporting telecom provider, COSM; and the National Authority, NCSA, Ministry of Digital Governance, overseeing the OES.
TRANSPORT
Transport use case, based in Spain, directly involving an OES, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya railway.
HEALTHCARE
Healthcare use case, based in Cyprus, involving an essential solution and infrastructure provider, Nodalpoint Systems, of an OES, the General Healthcare System of Cyprus.
