CARBONICA 5th General Assembly Strengthens Regional Collaboration for Carbon Farming Innovation

The 5th General Assembly of the CARBONICA EU project (Carbon Ιnitiative for Climate-resilient Agriculture) was held from 12 to 14 May 2026 in Thessaloniki, Greece, bringing together project partners, stakeholders, researchers, policymakers and innovators working to advance carbon farming innovation across Cyprus, Greece and North Macedonia.

Over three days, participants reviewed the project’s progress, exchanged knowledge and aligned on the next steps towards the establishment of a lasting carbon farming ecosystem in the region.

The programme opened on 12 May 2026 with the project’s 5th General Assembly at the Mediterranean Palace Hotel in Thessaloniki. Partners reviewed progress across all work packages, discussed upcoming milestones and coordinated activities for the final phase of implementation. The discussions focused on the validation of carbon farming solutions, business development support services, stakeholder engagement activities, policy recommendations and the long-term sustainability of the CARBONICA Excellence Hub.

On 13 May 2026, participants attended the Brain Gain Conference, titled “From Policy to Professions: Building the Carbon Economy Experts in Greece”. The conference brought together experts from academia, industry, certification bodies, public authorities and the Greek diaspora to discuss the skills, knowledge and professional pathways needed to support the emerging carbon economy and accelerate the uptake of carbon farming practices.

The event concluded on 14 May 2026 with a field visit to Ktima Gerovassiliou in Epanomi, Thessaloniki. The visit offered participants the opportunity to observe practical applications of sustainable agricultural practices and discuss how carbon farming solutions can contribute to more climate-resilient agricultural systems.

As CARBONICA enters its final implementation phase, the consortium remains committed to strengthening collaboration across Cyprus, Greece and North Macedonia.

Through practical tools, policy recommendations, business support activities and innovative carbon farming solutions, the project continues to support the transition towards more sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture in the region.
