Can you tell us about your background and how you got started in communication and project management?
Linda Kimeisa: Absolutely! My journey in communication began over 15 years ago when I dove into the world of copywriting for the web. I was one of the first in Latvia to explore how content performs online and how to strike a balance between SEO and user-focused content. This led me to publish a book with Latvian case studies adapted to SMEs. Fast forward to more recent years, and I stepped into the realm of EU-funded and co-funded project communication and dissemination activities, particularly in the Horizon 2020 projects and later on Horizon Europe. It was an exciting shift, leveraging my business experience in research and innovation. Since then, I’ve been continuously learning and experimenting, finding similarities in communication strategies regardless of the industry.
What inspired you to transition from copywriting to project management, specifically in research and innovation projects?
Linda Kimeisa: The transition stemmed from a desire to broaden my horizons and explore new avenues. Joining these projects presented an exciting challenge that allowed me to apply my communication skills in another context. The idea of contributing to groundbreaking research and innovation initiatives was incredibly motivating.
What key lessons have you learned from your experience in Horizon 2020 projects?
Linda Kimeisa: One of the most significant lessons has been the importance of adaptability and continuous learning. Each project brings its own complexities, from intricate technologies and specific terminologies to very different partners and approaches to research and innovation. However, having a dedicated team of experts has been instrumental in overcoming these challenges. Collaboration and trust within the team have been crucial in achieving our goals and effectively communicating project results.
