Aalborg (Denmark), December 3rd, 2024; – UPLIFT (Upcycling Bio Plastics of food and drinks packaging) will hold its virtual final conference on January 16th, 2025 from 09:00 to 12:00 (CET) revolving around Shaping tomorrow’s packaging today where the consortium experts will showcase the technical milestones, conclusions and results achieved in the last years.
The conference will aim to show a comprehensive exploration of sustainable advancements in the plastic industry. Key topics will include the plastic value chain, highlighting innovations in the entire lifecycle of plastic materials, and the depolymerization and cleaning processes, essential for breaking down plastic waste into reusable components. Additionally, the conference will cover the fermentation of building blocks, which enables the transformation of basic materials into valuable compounds, and the chemo-enzymatic synthesis of polyesters, a process that combines chemical and enzymatic methods to create eco-friendly plastics. The scalability of these processes will also be discussed, emphasizing the potential for large-scale applications and industry-wide impact.

The ambition behind UPLIFT is to boost the development and validation of novel enzymatic and microbial processes for the sustainable use of plastics in food and drinks packaging applications, which are being tested and evaluated from a technical, environmental and socio-economical point of view, thereby contributing to the development of a more circular European plastic packaging industry.
