Four young researchers – PhD students – from Riga Technical University have started a research path within the Ted4Lat Research Agenda in 2024. PhD students are paired with an experienced advisor from Institut National de Recherche pour l’Agriculture l’Alimentation et l’Environnement (INRAE) and Politecnico di Torino (POLITO) fostering mentorship and collaboration. The main goal of these activities is to increase research and innovation standards in Latvia.
This goal will be achieved by involvement of early-stage and young researchers in Ted4Lat research programme, PhD schools and workshops, development of new project proposals and other related activities.
Junior scientists hold monthly meetings with advisors, providing updates on their research and receiving feedback. They also visit advisor laboratories and attend PhD schools and workshops organized by Ted4Lat project partners.
RTU PhD student Guna Jakobsone-Snepste says:
“I am really excited about Ted4Lat project since this project has given me, as a new PhD student, an opportunity to have a foreign mentor for the development of my thesis and the opportunity to attend a PhD school in a TOP300 university. I believe that this project will have an important positive impact on my future career.”
Ted4Lat research agenda (programme) for PhD students and young researchers is open until December 31, 2024.
The research program involves the following disciplines:
- Physical sciences – Condensed matter physics descriptor: structure and dynamics of disordered systems: soft matter (gels, colloids, liquid crystals, etc.), liquids, glasses, defects, etc.
- Computer sciences, information science, and bioinformatics – Artificial intelligence, intelligent systems, multi-agent systems – scientific computing, simulation and modelling tools
- Environmental engineering – Environmental and geological engineering, geotechnics – sustainable design (for recycling, for the environment, eco-design).
About the project
The project “Twinning in Environmental Data and Dynamical Systems Modelling for Latvia” (TED4LAT) is a Coordination and Support Action proposal targeting the overarching objective: to reach high international standards in research and innovation in Latvia. The project is implemented by twinning two prominent research institutions in France, Institut National de Recherche pour l’Agriculture, l’Alimentation et l’Environnement, and in Italy, Politecnico di Torino, with three widening Latvian Universities (Liepaja University, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, and Riga Technical University). The Baltic Open Solutions Center, a Latvian SME, joins the endeavor as a living-lab application partner.
